Construction tools have been some of the most important items in human history. Shaping the world we live in today, many of the historic buildings and monuments we cherish would not have been possible without tools. Of course, these items date back thousands of years, but what is the current technology that we can see in our tools and where will the industrial tool industry be in 100 years’ time? Keep reading this blog to find out more!
The history
So first, let’s talk about the history of tools. Of course, it’s pretty much common knowledge that the first tools humans used were rudimentary stones and small pieces of flint which we chiselled to create tool shapes. Many civilisations added to this technology over the years but still used the basic principle of stones to create the main tool. However, at the beginning of the Egyptian Empire, huge strides were made in almost every part of society, and particularly in the construction industry.
The first drill was invented in the Egyptian era around 5000 years ago. Then, in the Roman era, the Auger was invented, which was used to drill holes into the ground and wooden beams. This technology was then used throughout the middle ages and Medieval periods.
Present
Nowadays, of course, there is a myriad of tools and equipment available to construction professionals. The tools nowadays are mostly powered and save people a huge amount of energy and time. Of course, there are still a few instances where a manual variant is the best option and these are often still kept on the site. So, what are some notable examples of present construction equipment and tools?
Drilling tools
Most drilling tools are now completely electric and use a small, often rechargeable battery to power the motor. This motor then allows the drill to spin both clockwise and anticlockwise. Electric-powered drills are extremely reliable and very capable items.
Cutting tools
Much like drilling tools, many of the construction industries’ cutting tools now work with electrical power. However, due to the amount of energy these items need to power the large saws, they rarely use battery power and need a mains connection to work.
Dumpers
Dumpers are powered vehicles used to move large amounts of debris or soil from one area of the site to another. They are mostly powered by either a diesel or petrol engine and can carry extremely heavy loads. Here at Tool Care Hire, our largest payload dumper can carry an unbelievable 9000 kg of weight.
